First Fridays for Food Security

Those of us who attended Catholic Schools may remember the routines of First Friday’s- mass and early dismissal! Where this still occurs, the U.S. bishops have asked a larger task of their congregation.

For a year, the bishops have asked that we only eat meals that only cost as much as is alloted to families of our size by the USDA Modified Thrifty Food Plan. This is the basis for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP and formerly called food stamps).  Staying in budget is seen as a type of fasting.

Visit the Facebook page for First Fridays for Food Security to find resources, interact with others, and calculate your budget!

What a great way to raise awareness and be in solidarity with our brothers and sisters!
